At PawsSelect, product testing isn’t done in a lab — it’s done in a real home, by real animals with real preferences. Our quality testing team is made up of three very different personalities, each bringing their own expertise, standards, and honest feedback. Together, they ensure that every product we offer meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and effectiveness.

Brutus - The Wise Senior

Age: 10 years old

Role: Senior Dog Specialist & Product Veteran

Expertise: Joint health, hip care, senior nutrition

Brutus has been by my side for over a decade, and over the years, he’s taught me more about pet care than any book ever could. As he’s aged, his needs have evolved — and so has my understanding of what truly matters in senior dog products.

Today, Brutus approaches new products with measured curiosity. He knows what works for his body and what doesn’t. If a treat doesn’t taste good or is too hard for his aging teeth, he lets me know. If a supplement doesn’t agree with his digestion, the signs are immediate — and I adapt to find what’s best for him.

dy for the next adventure. He joined our family not just as a companion, but as the next generation of our testing team — and he’s taken to the role with enthusiasm.

As a growing puppy, Micky’s needs are completely different from Brutus’s. He requires products that support healthy development, satisfy natural chewing instincts, and keep up with his boundless energy.

Mystic - The Skeptical Reviewer

Age: 2 years old

Role: Feline Quality Control & Skeptical Reviewer

Expertise: Cat nutrition, hydration solutions, toys, and fur care

If Brutus is wise and Micky is enthusiastic, Mystic is discerning. As any cat owner knows, cats have strong opinions — and they’re not shy about expressing them.

Mystic takes time to adapt to new products and is unimpressed by anything that doesn’t meet his standards. If he doesn’t like something, you know it — he has more attitude than my two big dogs combined. If Mystic walks away, the product doesn’t make the cut. If he comes back for seconds, we know we’ve found something special.

Growing up around barn cats taught me that felines are creatures of instinct and preference. They don’t accept products just because they’re available — they choose what truly works for them. Mystic embodies that same selective nature.

Our Testing Process

When a new product arrives, it goes through a multi-stage evaluation:

1. Initial Inspection

We examine packaging, ingredients, and quality before any testing begins.

2. Real-World Testing

Brutus, Micky, or Mystic (depending on the product category) tests the item in everyday conditions—no staged scenarios, just honest use.

3. Observation & Feedback

We monitor their reactions, preferences, and any signs of discomfort or disinterest.

4. Final Approval

If the product passes all three stages and meets our standards, it earns a place in the PawsSelect store.

This process ensures that every product we offer is tested, trusted, and backed by real experience.
